This is a crafted item. It adds protection to any armor it is attached to, but they are quite fragile. To remove an armor plating, you right-click on the armor attachment icon in your inventory and choose 'Detach Attachments'.
it is funny that the item states it is crafted as any other plating, even though it isn't.
